I met Dharampal some years ago at Wardha, he was over 80 but very with it. He has been accused of being a hindutwa type (the article i posted on him by gurumurthy is from a hindutwa sympathising group, and gurumurthy sounds like a typical high-caste low-iq twit if you glance at his other articles) - but i found him to be equally critical of gandhi and the right-wingers - which pretty much spans the whole hindu spectrum.
He had a lot of respect for ambedkar and nehru, but basically felt that we had sold out in a big way - culturally, morally, etc. Hes been sidelined by the left-leaning historians because he doesnt suck up to a foreign philosophy, and of course the right has appropriated him because of his romantic hindu past slant. I agree with Jayawanth, his works are worth checking out. The brits documented everything - its amazing to what extent a society that lacks knowledge, refinement and good taste will go to acquire them. Maybe theres a message in it for modern India. - Jogesh For those who are interested in exploring this further which is a must for every citizen of India, Sri Dharampal's writings are available in soft copy free from http://multiversitylibrary.com/index.jsp Earlier, Other India Book Store had published 5 Vols and the contents are listed below. http://www.otherindiabookstore.com.
