I met Dharampal some years ago at Wardha, he was over 80 but very with it. He 
has been accused of being a hindutwa type (the article i posted on him by 
gurumurthy is from a hindutwa sympathising group, and gurumurthy sounds like a 
typical high-caste low-iq twit if you glance at his other articles) -  but i 
found him to be equally critical of gandhi and the right-wingers - which pretty 
much spans the whole hindu spectrum. 

He had a lot of respect for ambedkar and nehru, but basically felt that we had 
sold out in a big way - culturally, morally, etc. Hes been sidelined by the 
left-leaning historians because he doesnt suck up to a foreign philosophy, and 
of course the right has appropriated him because of his romantic hindu past 
slant. 
 
I agree with Jayawanth, his works are worth checking out. The brits documented 
everything - its amazing to what extent a society that  lacks knowledge, 
refinement and good taste will go to acquire them.
Maybe theres a message in it for modern India.
