Dalits go on rampage 27 Oct 2007, 0227 hrs IST,TNN AMRITSAR: Dalits resorted to vandalism at a busy Amritsar market on Friday to avenge the death of a youth belonging to their community. Police said Shankar Das was shot at near Beri Gate by some people who alighted from the car of Bony Gill, a relative of SAD MLA Raminder Singh Bularia, on Thursday. On Friday, it was the height of police inaction at Hall Bazar when cops stood as mute spectators, while Dalit youths, brandishing swords, iron rods and hockey sticks went on rampage. They smashed window panes, windscreens, threatened the public.As news of rioting spread, scared shopkeepers downed the shutters.
