I agree that we need to get email updates for failing
devices.
If FMA discovers it, email can be sent, at least in Solaris Express 11;

Dedup is *hungry* for RAM. 8GB is not enough for

What is zdb -D showing?
Does this give you any clue;
You will have to uncomment the zpool import -a line in /mnt/eon0/.exec for
this to automatically import your pools on startup.
(took a while before I found this too...)
Other than that, for me, EON is great!
