JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities:

 

Data Warehouse Data Architect

 

The D/W Data Architect is responsible for ensuring the business intelligence 
data architecture meets the business goals of the organization. The D/W Data 
Architect works closely with the business to make sure data warehouse content 
and the implementation order is aligned with their analytical needs and 
business priorities.

 

The D/W Data Architect works closely with Data Stewards in establishing common 
definitions for data and calculations, clear acceptance criteria and test 
cases, and measuring data quality standards.

 

The D/W Data Architect is then responsible for translating concepts, 
terminology, and priorities between the business and technical teams. The D/W 
Data Architect translates the businesses BI requirements into dimensional 
models, data transformation logic, high level BI application requirements, or 
other artifacts necessary for the Database Development team and the BI 
Application Service team to implement data warehouse subsystems.

 

The D/W Data Architect participates in the development of the overall Technical 
Architecture, specifically the configuration of the data warehouse, data marts, 
staging areas, and operational data stores.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Effectively communicates with other technology and product team members

Designs an information strategy that maximizes the value of data as an 
enterprise asset and fulfills the needs of the business

Prioritizes and balances competing priorities including conducting cost/benefit 
assessments of user requests

Performs project leadership, requirements analysis, ad-hoc reporting, and user 
support

Plans and authors the user documentation set, acceptance criteria, and helps 
construct representative test data sets

Is an authority on application system data and related business processes

Produces dimensional models, develops source-to-target mapping and data 
transformation logic, documents standard calculations, and communicates these 
requirements to the design and build teams

Coordinates the metadata associated with the application and data stores

Coordinates the creation of data standards

Maintains Data Quality metrics

Advises on known and anticipated data quality issues

Supports the build out of the Data Warehouse, Data Marts and operational data 
store or staging areas

 

Qualifications/Certifications:

 

Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Works independently with minimal supervision

Must be able to work effectively with both business and technical stakeholders

Strong business analysis, problem solving, data validation, and project 
management skills are essential

Strong Data Warehouse experience and SQL expertise are essential

Strong understanding of Data Warehouse, dimensional modeling, and data 
integration concepts

Ability to author a range of artifacts to support the implementation of the 
data warehouse by the database administration team, ETL team, and application 
development team. Examples include dimensional models, source-to-target 
mapping, report mockups, and test cases

Has expertise with at least one RDBMS

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (including Analysis Services, Reporting Services) and 
Performance Point experience is desired

Experience with an agile based software development methodology desired

Experience doing cost/benefit analysis desired
