Position: DataWarehouse /Database Administrator Duration: 6 Months Location: Austin TX Rate: $50/hr Responsibilities: The Data Warehouse Database Administrator is responsible for the data warehouse database architecture. The D/W Database Administrator works closely with the Data Warehouse Data Architects to ensure the physical database implementation meets the business objectives for data access, performance and reliability. The D/W Database Administrator is responsible for coordinating the many facets of the data warehouse database solution. This includes translating the logical models (e.g. dimensional models) into a physical design and implementation leveraging the appropriate data warehouse capabilities of the database such as partitioning, OLAP, etc. Also included are the operational considerations of the data warehouse, analytical components, security, job scheduling, volume and capacity planning, performance tuning, general administration of the DBMS, and resolution of production failures. The D/W Database Administrator collaborates with the Integration Architect and the System Administrators in defining the backroom technical architecture that supports getting data into the data warehouse. The D/W database administrator collaborates with the D/W Application developer to define the front room technical architecture that supports user consumption of data. Responsibilities: Plans, implements and supports enterprise data warehouse databases Proposes and implements enhancements to improve performance and reliability of the data warehouse infrastructure Coordinates the operational support of database warehouse infrastructure, including backup, recovery, and monitoring with the Infrastructure Database Operations Team Establishes and maintains database security and integrity controls Sets standards and procedures for the D/W environment Delivers database services while managing to policies, procedures and standards Collaborates across D/W CoE and IT to identify and resolve technical and performance issues Maintains the D/W metadata repository Contributes to technical and system architectural planning Develops volume and capacity estimates Supports D/W Data Integration Developers in troubleshooting performance issues Qualifications/Certifications: Must be able to work effectively with both business and technical stakeholders Possesses strong analytical and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Expertise in database configuration and tuning, especially star schemas and OLAP cubes. Expertise understanding of relational databases, OLAP, and dimensional data models Strong Business Analysis, strategic planning, system analysis, problem solving, and project management skills is essential Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (including Analysis Services, Reporting Services) and Performance Point experience is desired.
