Position Description: Infrastructure Engineer
About the Team and Infrastructure Topology:
The Infrastructure support team is responsible for providing
infrastructure support for the SIR infrastructure architecture. The
team works closely with the corporate platform teams (Unix, network,
middleware, database) to plan and implement changes. The key
components of the infrastructure include Solaris 10, SUSE Linux,
Oracle 10g, Ab Initio, WebLogic app servers, Apache web servers,
Wintel, Business Objects, Autosys, Sun E25K/E15k/4800/490/480s, EMC
and Hitachi SAN Arrays, F5 load-balancers, Checkpoint firewalls. The
team is mostly involved in infrastructure planning and change
coordination and is rarely required to provide hands-on support on
these technology components. Hands-on support is provided by the
platform teams. For new applications, this team works with development
and business teams to get the “technical requirements” and design
infrastructure to run it on.
Responsibilities:
�X Design and plan for the infrastructure changes, upgrades and
decommissioning in higher and lower environments.
�X Carry 24x7 support pager on a rotation schedule with peers
in the team, to be alerted for infrastructure issues. Work with
platform teams to isolate, troubleshoot and resolve issues.
�X Work with various teams to determine future infrastructure
requirements and plan capacity across horsepower and storage.
�X Provide metrics and project planning updates for the long-
running upgrades and changes.
�X Provide technical expertise and lead junior engineers as
required.
�X Be on a 24x7 rotation schedule to provide tier-3 application
support.
Qualifications:
Must-Have Skills:
�X Two or more years experience in a similar role advising on
infrastructure changes and planning.
�X Six or more years of prior experience of hands-on support on
system, database, networking or middleware components. Experience in
variety of platforms is preferred.
�X Experience with performance testing and capacity planning.
�X Experience with failover and recovery planning, design and
testing.
�X Understanding of change management and automation/
repeatability.
�X Demonstrated experience in working in production
environment.
�X Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
�X Excellent teaming and leadership skills.
�X Ability to multi-task and provide expertise for multiple
infrastructure related efforts across concurrent project tasks.
�X Experience of documenting network and system specifications
and diagrams using Visio.
�X Must have worked in large scale environments with at least
twenty high performing Sun servers.
�X Ability to work with platform teams to resolve
infrastructure related issues.
Nice to have Skills:
�X Knowledge of MS-Project
�X CCNA, Linux, Oracle or Solaris Admin Certification
4-7 years engineering experience in IT environment * 4+ Yrs.
Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics,
Engineering or related field * Yes
Experience in implementation methodologies and the application
