*Location: Allentown, PA* *Duration: 1 Year* * Position Summary:* This position is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing additions and extensions to a complex business software application, specifically the proprietary AFAS insurance administration application. *Essential Functions:* Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents, and installs functional units that enhance and tailor the AFAS application for specific insurance products. Works with clients and internal project leaders to interpret specifications provided to meet development assignment goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner. Responds to errors and urgent problems. Takes independent action to correct problems encountered. Maintains application design integrity. Additional Responsibilities: Produce technical or procedural documentation as required. May participate in off-hours beeper support rotation. Performs other duties as may be assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Essential computer skills: Ø Proficiency with Java, especially J2SE. Ø Proficiency in Object Oriented analysis, design, and programming. Ø Proficiency in debugging. Ø Proficiency in reading, understanding, and working with large existing code bases. Beneficial computer skills: Ø Familiar with Design Patterns and UML notation. Ø Familiar with use for profiling tools for execution analysis Ø Familiar with algorithm analysis and design. Ø Familiar with Eclipse, JBuilder, or equivalent Java IDE. Ø Experience with scripting ANT, Unix/Linux shell, Windows batch files a plus. Ø Experience with source code control tools and best practices. Ø Experience working in a software development life cycle environment. General knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ø Strong values, highest degree of personal integrity. Ø Works effectively with others, treats others with courtesy and respect; team player. Ø Performs with a customer-service mindset.
