The Commercial Business Services BU/Network Services Line currently has an opening for a Sr. Field Engineer. JOB DESCRIPTION: Scope: Responsible for performing customer support activities involving the installation, modification and repair of satellite, networking and wireless equipment and systems. Conducts onsite installation and testing of equipment to ensure proper working order. Isolates equipment start-up malfunctions and takes corrective action. May make technical presentations. Trains customer personnel in equipment operation and maintenance responsibilities. Represents the company in a customer support role and is responsible for customer's satisfaction with equipment and servicing. Administers company policies that directly affect subordinate employees. Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies. Works on complex problems. Frequently interacts with customers and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Interactions normally involve matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company. Acts as the principal point of contact with end-users of VSAT satellite networks. Performs second-level phone support to customers in troubleshooting network issues. Phone support involves international locations and may involve after-hours work. (Note: working hours are flexible when this situation occurs.) Occasionally travel to customer locations to perform site surveys, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of VSAT and other wireless networks. Plans and conducts operation and maintenance training of VSAT and other wireless networks. May serve in a lead role, and must have a highly developed capability to effectively train others. Examine existing network systems and make recommendations on improvements or optimization. Education: Bachelors Degree in a computer-related, engineering, or scientific field, at least four years of VSAT or network technical experience; OR a High School Diploma, at least eight years of VSAT network technical experience. Required Skills: Able to read, write, and verbally communicate, and compose correspondence and/or reports at a level to solicit or explain information that is complex or technical. Must be able to provide technical phone support to customers and filed engineers in foreign countries for whom English is a second or third language. Must be able to install and troubleshoot baseband and RF network equipment.
