Editing the wiki pages on github work pretty much like a dokuwiki, no git
needed! (Only uploading images is a bit more tricky.)
For expert usage you can indeed also check out the wiki as a repository and
edit it offline.
The obvious solution is to make zim support the github wiki -

The technical answer is that zim keeps all connection data in a sqlite
database (the index cache). All the graphviz link map does is accessing
that database and writing a graphviz file. If there are better
visualization tools, it should be rather straight forward to develop a
plugin that
