So I setup Zim in full screen mode. And then generaly I setup the size of the editor window to approximatively 100 characters. Might help to run zim with debug logging and see at what debug output the time is spent. Also something that should go in a bug report. Yes you can open the same notebook with different versions. In that case I do recommend enabling the shared notebook option in the properties to avoid messing up the index.
