Their military equipment is also built to a much different quality requirement than their commercial stuff - just like ours. Had a fun little exercise, militarily speaking, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there and getting to meet a few of the members. I'll bet half of them were named Hatch, right? Each of Mark's and my wards, which meet in the same chapel in Spruce Grove (his ward covers, to simplify, the parts of the county west of the city of Spruce Grove itself, such as Stony Plain and Onoway), have a prominent Hatch family (the two men are brothers, and I even dated their younger sister once when I was in university). They all come from Cherry Grove. That's also how I knew about the water tower. It was a very funny story, but you would have to be an air traffic controller to really understand it, although I might try to tell it some day if I should happen to feel in top writing form. I'd look forward to it. Cold Lake is one of three fighter wing commands (the other two being in Ontario and Quebec) for Canadian Forces Air Command (what used to be the RCAF, iow) and a lot of NATO training takes place there. The cruise missile was tested there, among other places, because the Primrose Lake Air Weapons Range resembles the muskeg of large parts of Siberia (and it's big enough that if you make a mistake in targetting, it's no big deal!) The Yalu is not a swift-flowing river and is today a smuggler's paradise, for getting Russian-made goods out of Mongolia, across NE China and into N. Korea. As always, dictators only threaten when it is to their advantage, and seldom if ever our of pure ideological reasoning. Nobody does anything out of ideology anymore. Bush used Iraq to gain control of the Senate. Period. Watch: there won't be a war -- Iraq will blink. But it doesn't really matter, does it? Macarthur was right in his opinion, and wrong in his disobedience. Hence the old saying that war is too important to be left to the generals. As a civil servant myself I've seen times when political decisions were made which ran counter to my advice, or the advice of my boss or colleagues. But once you know all the facts you can at least understand why the politician did what he did, even if on a professional level you don't agree. But we're civil *servants* -- our job is to implement a political program, not the other way around. Ditto the military. As von Clausewitz said, war is diplomacy by other means. Re: [ZION] Social Mormons (was: Liberal dems unveil...)
I should answer my own earlier, rhetorical question to make one point plain (and I agree with what you said, btw, this is just an additional point): vis-a-vis coffee/tea and caffeine. I would not have a problem with the occasional popping of a caffeine pill if you're driving late at night for a long period of time, for instance, but I'd do it with great care, as it's also an addictive drug. OTOH, I wouldn't drink decaf coffee, either -- to me that's a clear violation of the WoW. Your verstage may vary. For an Albertan, despite this being the home of k d lang, who we consider as a bit of an, er, aberration, anyway, it's hard for us to give up our meat. We had emu meat the other day, and Cathy was tempted to pick up a couple of bison steaks at the farmer's market at the main mall in Spruce Grove last weekend, but it was a bit pricey so she settled for SuperStore beef. When I was young and reckless (as opposed to being middle-aged and reckless), I used to entertain customers -- take them to lunch, and even on rare occasions, to dinner. We once had this small group come up from the U. of Michigan. They had developed a special array processor which would have application in the oil industry (seismic processing is computer intensive) and our company was going to represent them in Canada. So I took the group to Smuggler's Inn on Macleod Trail in Calgary, which featured, and I kid you not, 24 oz prime rib (remember: that's all meat -- no bone, like a steak). It was a good inch thick and covered the whole plate. The president of the company ordered it on a dare from one of his techies, and when it arrived, he just kept staring at it, saying, over and over, I can't eat this, I can't eat this... I settled for a more reasonable 16 oz ;-) I know a cowboy restaurant/bar off the LBJ freeway in Dallas which serves 48-oz steaks. We used to have a restaurant in Edmonton, called the Ranchman's, which served them, too, but I don't know if they still do. Once I took some Scottish doctors and nurses to lunch at a British pub on Calgary Trail (Mark will probably know the Lion's Head, in the office tower/hotel complex just north of Whitemud Crossing). They decided to have venison on buns, and after the nurse from Aberdeen, a sweet lady about a year from retirement, was halfway through it, I leaned over and said, You know, of course, Mrs. Crampton, that you're eating a Bambiburger? She almost threw it across the table. I'm so mean. Jon Spencer wrote: We all know the caffeine thing. (Actually, one of the funny little side comments from the movie Singles Ward is about how his girlfriend is less than enthusiastic about him because she found a couple of empty Dr. Pepper bottles in his car. Ya gotta see this movie if you haven't!) I clearly didn't mean that it meant that we should be vegetarians (given my signature line). However, I think that the meaning is quite clear, and that we would probably all do better, and receive more blessings, if we followed the WoW a little more closely than we do (myself included). And I do not need to rely on the prophets for something that, as far as I know, they have not commented upon. I believe that it is up to me to understand the best I can. And as far as I can tell, the veggies live the WoW better, on this topic, than does the average member I know (myself included). Jon - Original Message - From: Marc A. Schindler [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, November 12, 2002 11:28 AM Subject: Re: [ZION] Social Mormons (was: Liberal dems unveil...) I think it means what it says, but the point is that modern-day prophets have defined what the WoW means for us. I'll give you an example. Many people assume it means no caffeine, but if that were the case a good portion of OTC drugs that we take would be verboten. Is decaff okay? No. Clearly we're not to drink coffee or (green/black) tea. That's what it means, not no caffeine. We tend to get bogged down in unimportant details. But in any case the phrase you quote doesn't mean vegetarianism, as a vegetarian will eat no meat, not just eat meat sparingly. Jon Spencer wrote: So exactly what does (paraphrasing from memory) the following mean: eat meat sparingly and only in the winter ? Jon, soon to be on his way for a quarter pounder with cheese Marc A. Schindler wrote: Again, I say, we should follow the commandments of the prophets, and they have told us to get involved in politics. I don't see that that implies necessarily that we'll get involved at the expense of the Gospel. Quite the opposite, since we're doing what we're told to do. It's just like the Word of Wisdom -- some people take it to extremes, trying to convert others to, say, vegetarianism on the supposed basis of the WoW. // /// ZION LIST CHARTER: Please read it at /// ///

Re: [ZION] Truman (was Taliban in pakistan)
Foreign policy is like a boomerang -- it always comes back. And when you're a superpower, it's like a big boomerang in a tornado. It comes back, but brings the kitchen sink and a few cows with it. Jon Spencer wrote: So John, are you now saying that we SHOULD be engaged in foreign conflicts? :-) By the way, if you are, in this case I fully agree with you. We would have toppled Mao's regime, and the genocide of the Cultural Revolution would never have taken place. By some estimates, Mao was responsible for the deaths of up to 75 million of his own people as he systematically went about consolidating his power according to Marxist doctrine. As for the war not being waged under the Constitution, whose fault was that? Truman's? And I thought you said that the USA runs the UN? I also thought you said that the UN can't do anything without US consent. If our membership in the UN mandates that we behave dishonorably and send our fighting men to their deaths while allowing the enemy sanctuary beyond the Yalu, the those Americans who got us into the UN ought to be hanged right along with Truman. Some things are unforgivable. And the orders given MacArthur were treasonable. He was ordered to stand down while the enemy was still attacking him and killing his men. No wonder he took his appeal to the American people. He foolishly imagined that they would be too honorable to let such a travesty occur. John W. [ZION] The Lord of the Rings
I bought a copy of the Extended Edition DVD of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring yesterday. Man, I can hardly wait to view the extra 30 minutes of screenplay. This movie will wear well with time; there's so much rich depth. Instead of growing out of the film people will grow into it. And to think that there are two more coming! When all three are finished people will undoubtedly consider The Lord of the Rings as one of the greatest film achievements of all time. The next two films in the set will likely be every bit as good as the first. And for those that like extra bits, this first Extended Edition is already the best DVD release of any movie ever. While I don't particularly care about anything except the extra screenplay, others will wallow joyfully in the additional two disks of material. = Mark Gregson [EMAIL PROTECTED] = -- ___ Get your free email from http://mymail.operamail.com Powered by Outblaze // /// ZION LIST CHARTER: Please read it at /// /// http://www.zionsbest.com/charter.html /// / ==^ This email was sent to: archive@jab.org EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?aaP9AU.bWix1n.YXJjaGl2 Or send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^

If he isn't allowed to do this, he is being forced to make targets of his men with no recourse. Dan: A ground war is about occupying ground. In Korea, the enemy wanted the ground we were occupying. Korea was never intended to be an 'all-out' war - which is what you are describing. The intent was to kick them out of territory that they had occupied, not start another world war. MacArthur was tasked with holding a defensive position, and allowed to take whatever measures he felt necessary to do that - but not occupy territory beyond that line. The Chinese were not attacking us from sanctuary [strawman alert], but were trying to reoccupy territory we had denied them. MacArthur continued to send patrols beyond his line, attack 'targets of opportunity', and generally bloody the Chinese army whenever he had the opportunity. Which makes a better target to an army advancing on-line: a soldier in a fortified bunker, or one lying down in the tall grass? John: This is what Reagan did in Lebanon and why we lost 277 Marines there in that truck bombing. The factions fighting us could attack at will be we were effectually forbidden to return fire which would have entailed going and getting whoever was shooting at us. Instead our troops were confined to an indefensible position on an airport runway. This is little more than murder of ones own troops. Dan: What Reagan did in Lebanon of completely different that what Truman _and_ MacArthur did in Korea. Apples and Oranges. Not sure what the airport comment is in reference to. John: In any case, if Truman wasn't going to let MacArthur win the Korean War even if it meant following Chinese combatants across the Yalu, he should never have sent our troops over there. When China attacked us we were at war with China, weren't we? Well, if China wants to attack us, we must defeat them. What we did was dishonest and a betrayal of our fighting men in the field. Don't we owe something to our fighting men in time of war? Don't we owe them the support to let them win? The military should be subject to civilian leadership, but that leadership needs to be loyal to the troops. If it isn't, then it is a traitor and betrayer. Which just about sums up what I feel about Truman. He betrayed our armed forced, and deserves to be remembered as one of the blackest villains of our national history. Dan: Define win John. No battle plan ever survives first contact with the enemy. We went into Korea with a limited plan; do not allow the Communists to take over Korea. When the Chinese entered the battle the scope completely changed . Truman was not willing to throw us into another full-scale war with all of the negative impacts it would have at home. The Korean war needed to stay within the initial scope of denying the Communists all of Korea. We were not there fighting for our very existence, but the right of a separate people to have a chance at democracy. Following MacArthur's plans would have been a far _greater_ betrayal of our country than what we ended up with. We owe it to our fighting men, and now women, to ensure that their sacrifices are not wasted on egotistical empire building. MacArthur was a brilliant tactician, but in many ways he was more interested in his legacy than what was right for the country. Truman had his own problems, some of which were created in dealing with the mess Roosevelt left him, but betrayal of the military was not one of them. John: MacArthur shouldn't have disobeyed his civilian leaders. He should have resigned his commission. As it was, he humiliated himself and let Truman win the argument. Truman was scum. MacArthur should have quit and then taken his plea to the American people. Not that they would have paid any attention to him. The average voter in this country is a vile as Truman was. They don't care how dishonorably their government acts. They don't even seem to understand that in a democracy we are responsible for the actions of our government. Dan: A military officer who disobeys a superiors orders (unless they are illegal) is not fit to be an officer. Truman, as Commander-in-Chief, was responsible for more than just the army in the field; he was also responsible for putting the country back together, and taking care of all of the dirty deals Roosevelt had started. As Commander-in-Chief he had every right to expect MacArthur to take care of the one small part of the overall picture he was tasked with. By taking his argument into the public sector MacArthur showed that he could not be trusted to obey orders. Had Truman followed MacArthur's plan, the Korean war would have escalated into another world war, and we would have

Their military equipment is also built to a much different quality requirement than their commercial stuff - just like ours. Re: [ZION] Truman the Villain
After much pondering, Dan R Allen favored us with: Define win John. To me this is like asking me to define is. Obviously, win means to defeat the enemy. Did we defeat the North Koreans? No. Did we defeat the Chinese? No. No battle plan ever survives first contact with the enemy. We went into Korea with a limited plan; do not allow the Communists to take over Korea. And that is the whole problem. Nations have no business going to war with a limited plan. Do you think that either the North Koreans or China had a limited plan? Talking about a limited plan is talking about pulling your punches. And in any fight, pulling your punches is the road to defeat such as we suffered in Vietnam. When the Chinese entered the battle the scope completely changed . Truman was not willing to throw us into another full-scale war with all of the negative impacts it would have at home. Truman was a traitor to his country and a betrayer of the men who served under him in battle. And if negative impacts were going to keep us from going for a victory, then we never should have gone into Korea in the first place. Victory is the ONLY moral objective in a war. First, may darn sure you are justified in going to war, and second, win it or die trying. Korea was an undeclared, ie. unconstitutional, police action. We had no business there, especially as part of a UN operation. And all of the top civilian leaders who put us there and then didn't let us take the war to the enemy are going to burn in hell unless they repented. The Korean war needed to stay within the initial scope of denying the Communists all of Korea. Wrong. The only morally acceptable initial scope should have been defeating North Korea for their incursion into the south. And China should have known up front that if they interfered they would have to deal with us in a full scale war. The truth of the matter is, we had people in our government that were on the side of North Korea and China. That is why they conducted the war the way they did. The same thing happened in Vietnam. If a country isn't going to go all out to win a war, it should stay out of it in the first place. Anything else is a betrayal of the men who fight, their families, their communities, and the nation. Re: [ZION] Hardwired for God?
At 06:41 PM 11/13/2002, Marc wrote: I read that. Be careful with John Pratt -- he's into some pretty scary stuff involving signs and tokens in his own semi-public ceremonies involving what he calls the Enoch calendar. Details available upon request. But more to the point, and staying away from personal attacks, he discusses a book that's making quite a splash (Why God Won't Go Away) but fails to note that while this book is popular -- it was mentioned on Indigo.ca's main page the last time I was there (Indigo is Canada's largest book chain) -- it has received poor reviews from scientists for its poor science. It's one thing to criticize a book for its conclusions, but if it misrepresents itself, that's a problem, and the poor reviews are, in my opinion, well-founded. Why? I won't get into the science per se, but the two guys who wrote it, while they have scientific bona fides, are a little out of their field when it comes to philosophy. They ironically try to show that there is a spiritual plane which exists in the physical world, a view that's known as reductionism, or rationalist materialism, and a philosophy we LDS would have a hard time with. It's the basis for atheism: that all so-called spirituality has a physical basis. My worry on behalf of Meridian is blow back when some of the nonsense Pratt's into backfire onto a very nice couple (the Proctors, who put out Meridian). Well, Pratt did say that none of the books he looked at, one of them being, _Why God Won't Go Away_, were worth the money he was going to spend on them. Besides, his article was not a book review. I agree with you regarding the basis for materialism. Marxist scientists have for decades attempted to establish a material basis for spiritual experiences, that is nothing new. However, that is not what Pratt was driving at. Pratt clearly states that there is a relationship between the brain and spiritual experiences but that we need to be careful not to draw conclusions without taking both the spiritual and material elements into consideration. Imo, the brain acts as sort of an interface, if you will, between body and spirit. Imo, Pratt is very much into the doctrine behind Moses 6: 63, that all things bear record of Christ. If it is true that all things bear record of Christ then it should not be surprising that astronomical and calendrical events might also bear testimony in some majestic way of the Savior of all mankind (See my sig file below). I look at Pratt's research in much the same manner as I do Avraham Gileadi's. Gileadi was a pathbreaker by exposing lay members of the Church to the learning of the Jews and how that learning can broaden and deepen ones understanding of scripture. Pratt does much the same thing in a different manner by exposing members of the Church to celestial and date events and how those can indeed bear record of Christ. I don't agree with all the conclusions that Gileadi makes and neither do I with Pratt, but I also don't throw out all of their good and valuable research as crackpot just because I have disagreements with various areas of their work. Besides, I don't base my testimony or doctrinal understanding on personalities, and you can be assured that If and when somebodies actions does become pretty scary, aside from Samuelson's wrong headed opinion of a harmless skit, that I'll distance myself completely from that particular personality. -- Steven Montgomery [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recall the new star that announced the birth at Bethlehem? Re: [ZION] One party rule?
*Some* of that criticism of the Repubs is deserved, I think -- Bush was tight with oil interests, which is okay, but he allowed further deregulations which basically allowed companies to hide a lot of stuff from their shareholders. Not that we're lily-white, either. The TSX (the Toronto Stock Exchange, and the regulatory bodies that regulate it) allow a rather arcane manoeuvre, the details of which I won't get into because of their complexity, which allow senior executives to appear in annual reports to be holding stock when in fact all they own are the votes associated with that stock -- the stock is effectively owned by banks who have bought short positions against the stocks as backup when the inevitable burst comes but in the meantime the managers get to vote themselves hefty salary increases and performance bonuses. Our tax philosophy is that the difference between tax evasion and tax avoidance is that you're allowed to structure your affairs in such a way as to avoid paying any more tax than you have to. Evasion, besides the usual definition, includes any manoeuvre which is set up for the *primary* purpose of avoiding tax, however, a bit of a grey area that it seems our tax officials are afraid of, or are underfunded, to try testing. Maybe they're afraid of slicing the top off of most of the TSX 500 companies :-/ Dan R Allen wrote: Marc: I don't care whose watch they were codified under -- they're still laws which allow for unlawful transfer of property. [ZION] WMD Conference: lessons learned
From Jane's News Briefs, 13/11/02 Jane's conference seeks to ensure that lessons drawn from bitter experience are learned to counter the WMD threat One point highlighted on the concluding day of the Jane's Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Conference, held in Washington DC last week, was that WMD are perfect tools for asymmetric warfare - a handful of anthrax in the mail system or a few bags of sarin nerve agent on a subway train have a massive impact upon individuals and communities. Dr Anthony Tu of Colorado State University gave a detailed account of the Aum Shinrikyo cult's sarin gas attacks in Tokyo in 1994 and the consequent police response to those events, in which 12 people died and thousands were injured. One revelation here was the full magnitude of the cult's nerve agent production: it had an advanced production facility that created some 70 tons of sarin gas. The speaker was called in by the Tokyo police during the crisis since he had done work on the chemical composition of sarin. Dr Tu had discovered that although the gas was non-persistent it did leave a tell-tale marker in soil (an acidic by-product) which gave the Japanese police the evidence they needed to link the attacks with the presence of sarin. The lessons learnt from the Tokyo sarin attacks were that a special force needed to be created and that on-scene decontamination was essential to prevent cross-contamination with responders and medical staff. Richard Rupert and Major Tony J Intrepido presented a session on the response to the anthrax attacks in the US following 11 September 2001. The urgency and importance of the clean-up operation in Washington DC was paramount, since Senators had to be allowed to return to Capitol Hill to prosecute the war on terrorism. The speakers explained their procedures for the decontamination of buildings and dealing with contaminated mail. The huge difficulties of cleaning buildings to ensure they were free from anthrax spores was considered. Nobody had a 'template' to rely on and military experience in decontamination techniques was not very relevant to this office-based scenario. The actual safety procedures and work processes adopted were similar to asbestos removal. Again and again the responders had to ask themselves: How clean is clean? A committee of independent experts was established to consider objectively the work progress before re-occupancy was finally approved. The disposal of tons of waste was a major problem, most notably the huge quantity of steel filing cabinets, which had been scoured and cleaned on so many occasions that they were rusting; only one plant in the whole of the US would accept the job of smelting the scrapped cabinets. Lessons to be learnt were many and included liability indemnity for contractors who were cleaning up the buildings. Tim Tinker of Widmeyer Communications spoke about WMD and public confidence. He explained the public fears associated with WMD - exactly what the users of these weapons wish to create. They can be thought of weapons of mass effect, and among these effects are the psychological consequences. The importance of getting the right message across through the media was identified as vital. Effective leadership was also seen as important to minimise stress illness in responders, according to Tinker, who said there was great benefit in medical clinicians assisting the population following a WMD attack. 'Stepped care' was explained: a proven method of progressive medical intervention to treat individuals post-deployment. Stephen L Caldwell from the US Government Auditing Office (GAO) gave an account of the US federal response to a WMD attack. His office was tasked with auditing the preparedness of the federal government in dealing with such an event. He explained that GAO staff were active in reviewing guidance and plans to counter and cope with a WMD attack. They were looking at all types of readiness activities and a summary was given of the various contingency exercises. Funding was explained along with the financial assistance given from federal government to individual states. A discussion of the proposed new Department of Homeland Security followed and how other departments will interact with it. One of the most impressive conclusions drawn from the GAO was the speed of reaction following the 11 September attacks in developing a means to tackle terrorism. Ron Herring from the company MSA explained the new needs of the first responder. His experience in providing truck-loads of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the responders of 11 September 2001 was detailed. Herring stated the importance of training in PPE, along with the selection of appropriate equipment and the stockpiling of it locally. He cautioned against the procurement of equipment from dubious sources, such as 'military surplus', and stressed the need to comply with safety standards to ensure the kit met industry approval and certification standards. Hey, that reminds me. Inquiring minds want to know. Howzacome you still use the Latin digraph when you spell amoeba and, usually, though not always, archaeology but omit it in palaeontology, haematology, encyclopaedia, etc.? Mind you, in Canada, as usual, we're all mixed up. You rarely see paediatrics except, e.g., in the title of the Canadian Paediatric Society, and their journal, Paediatrics and Child Health, and you never see oestrogen (estrogen) or many of the other oe words like you do outside North America. And my doctor calls the big lumps I get on my head hematomas in his reports, not haematomas (let alone haematomae). But, bygum, it's still caesium in my liberum, not cesium... Re: [ZION] Coffee beans
I know someone for whom this is also the case, although for a different condition. But I think today doctors are smart enough to come up with suitable alternatives. A bottle of 100 No-doze here costs only a couple of dollars, and those are only arctic pesos, so probably only like, three cents, eh? ...Just went hunting to see if I had any, and I do -- way back in a storage area I rarely use. They're called Wake Ups brand, and each pill has 100 mg, which is, iirc, more than a cup of coffee has. ...puff, puff Back again. Just did a search on Medscape. Fresh brewed coffee (225 mL mug -- I think that's 8 US fl oz) has 105 mg of caffeine; instant coffee has 95 mg. Excedrin has 135 mg. ACC's (Acetaminophen/Caffeine/Codeine, which is available without a prescription here) has only 15 mg, Tea's all over the map, but is usually less -- sometimes considerably less -- than coffee. Mountain Dew (the US version; Canada's has always been caffeine-free) has 55 mg in a 325 mL bottle -- a regular size bottle. Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, US version of Sunkist Orange Soda -- about the same as Mountain Dew. Hershey's Special Dark, 1.5 oz (35 g) has 31 mg A regular Hershey bar of the same size only has 10 mg. Cocoa (225 mL mug) only has 5 mg. BTW, why didn't the doc prescribe digitalis or digoxin? Digitalis has been around since antiquity (it comes from the foxglove plant), and digoxin has been in use since at least WWII, iirc. It's usually the drug of choice for heart stimulus. Although, it is, of course, a prescription drug, but there are many generics available. But as you say, medicinally speaking, caffeine is a CNS stimulant and can be used for a variety of purposes. The only problem is it doesn't just stimulate the heart, it raises blood pressure, which can damage your kidneys, among other things. Gary Smith wrote: The coffee bean can be used to produce caffeine, which is an important drug used for some illnesses. Just as with other drugs, it can be abused and misused. My grandfather was prescribed caffeine for a heart condition he had. The doctor told him he could either pay a dollar per caffeine pill or drink a cup of coffee every day. So at breakfast, he would say it was time to take his medicine, then drink a cup of coffee. Since it was prescribed, it wasn't breaking the WoW. -- Marc A. Re: [ZION] Hardwired for God?
Steven Montgomery wrote: I agree with you regarding the basis for materialism. That's fair enough. Perhaps I was quick to judge, but I just got the impression that he was trying to materialize the spirit somehow, sort of like those experiments where scientists have tried to weigh a soul by euthenizing animals on a scale. Er, results are, well, inconclusive. Can't get the durned things to sit still long enough... Imo, Pratt is very much into the doctrine behind Moses 6: 63, that all things bear record of Christ. Ah, yes, but only to the believer who has the witness of the Holy Ghost. Well, I still find his skit business (and Samuelson wasn't the only source for my skepticism) spooky. Making signs and tokens outside the public is going too far (if this is what indeed happened, and I'm not saying it did -- Samuelson and my other source both claimed to have seen something you would normally only see in the temple). Speaking of the star of Bethlehem, I'm sure you have heard most of the theories as to what it might have been. What would be your reaction if you learned that it might actually be an astrological phenomenon, and that it didn't happen in 1 A.D.? -- Marc A.
