Hope all is well. Thought I'd following up with you directly as Serge
cross-posted this on my behalf.
On your comment about this approach violating the Oracle policy,
actually I don't think this is the case. We would still be limiting all
oracle processes, albeit from multiple zones, to share a common capped
resource pool. Likewise, all BEA associated processes, in these same
zones, would be running on a separate resource pool reserved for BEA
processes. Processes with UIDs not associated with either project would
run in the default pool - where the zone is implicitly mapped.
Bottom line however is that there seems to be a hard restriction that all
process within a given local zone must run within no more than one
resource pool/pset, either the default or one explicitly defined,
and in the case of Oracle or BEA, pool must be capped to limit the
total.
Sounds like what I'm requesting is an RFE...
My alternative is to create separate zones for BEA, Oracle and Other
processes and then bind each local zone to the appropriate resource
pool. I could then use zone.cpu-shares and FSS in the global zone to
enforce relative zone priority for access to the shared pools.

No. All processes in one container must be in the same Resource Pool.
Even if they could accomplish what they want, this would violate the
Oracle license agreement and the whole point of Oracle's "capped
container" licensing policy.
There are a few other ways to configure this, but they won't meet all
of the goals mentioned. Howver, they won't violate the licensing
policies.
The simplest is probably:
* One BEA pool, one Oracle pool, one default pool
* Three zones per pool: UserGroup 1, UserGroup 2, UserGroup3.
* Projects to wrap up all the resource controls, accounting, etc.

zone to the respective resource pool which will drive up his
management costs. Btw, our managed services group charges
~$120/month to manage each local zone which is part of what's
driving this discussion.

the ability to use the project mechanism to associate subsets of
process within each local zone with different processor sets.

this is not the case.
