Patrick Hunt commented on ZOOKEEPER-240:

Jute generated toString methods rely on CSVOutputArchive which in turn relies
on Jute's Utils.java. the toCSVBuffer doesn't check for null buffer, which it
should.

Note: if you fix this (add null check to toCSVBuffer) please be sure to review
the rest of the code in Utils.java for similar problem(s).

[jira] Commented: (ZOOKEEPER-233) Create a slimer jar for clients to reduce thier disk footprint.

 ]

Patrick Hunt commented on ZOOKEEPER-233:

@Doug: that's how I usually do it.

I'm assuming we are talking about:
zookeeper-client-version.jar - all classes necessary to run client, incl
generated marshalling code
zookeeper-server-version.jar - all of the classes that are part of ZK, except
for that in zookeeper-client jar

This would be a non-bwcompat change -- ie build, scripts
(zkServer.sh/zkClient.sh), release packaging, etc.. would have to change.

or should we have three - client, server, common (marshalling code, etc...)? In
case we find more reasons to create additional specialized jars.

We have 1 vote from doug to have disjoint, anyone else?

Patrick Hunt commented on ZOOKEEPER-224:

Thanks for the feedback Doug, I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense.

I definitely think we should support this, but it's quickly turning from extra
work for me, to a lot of extra work. ;-)

I talked with Nigel who's the release manager for Hadoop Core. There is recent
progress on
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-3305 which is very similar to this
issue.

Nigel mentioned that we should be able to get some time from the contributors
to core's build management. We currently use the hadoop core build/release
process, it's a huge benefit to me not to have to reinvent the wheel and just
use their vetted processes. I'll talk with Nigel to see what can be done wrt
getting the work from 3305 ported into ZK build/release process. I'm going to
hold off on any changes related to this issue (build or release) until 3305
settles, worst case we can port the work from 3305 ourselves.

i dont htinnk the marshalling code should be in the client.jar. The whole idea
of having seperate jars I thought was to run them without being dependent on
each other. The one option would be to have 3 jars with the seriliazation/deser
code in another jar? This isnt a great idea. Too many jars is a hassle. So, I
think we should just include the common ser/deser code in both the client and
server for now? and have 2 jars but with some common files?

RE: [VOTE] Release ZooKeeper 3.0.1 (candidate 1)

2008-11-26 Thread Nigel Daley

+1. Signature and MD5 check out. Unit tests pass.

I filed https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZOOKEEPER-241 but don't
think it's a blocker for this release (it's not a regression from 3.0)

I've created a second candidate build for ZooKeeper 3.0.1.

*** Please download, test and VOTE before the
*** vote closes EOD on Friday, November 28.***

http://people.apache.org/~phunt/zookeeper-3.0.1-candidate-1/

The only change to rc1 from rc0 is adding a missing apache license
header to a source file:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZOOKEEPER-232

Should we release this?
