[Zope] ZEO client authentication

2005-10-03 Thread Mika, David P (Research)
I see that ZEO supports a simple digest authenitcation of clients and that this
is set in the zeo's config file with the keys: authentication-protocol,
authentication-database and authentication-realm.

Further, I can see that a client can connect using e.g. ZEO.ClientStorage with
arguments for a userid password (set in the ZEO authentication database).
However, how does one configure Zope (as a client to the ZEO server) to use
this authentication? I see nothing in the Zope config file. Somehow Zope must
be able to pass a valid userid and password in the authentication database to
ZEO.

Hi Reinoud,
we are investigating that problem atm.
Anonymous access to that folder is working -- except not for everyone :(

In the meantime try to access the folder through its folder_contents
listing, like: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope3/folder_contents

   http://zope.org/Products/Zope3/

[Reinoud van Leeuwen]
Is it intended that one should login before being able to access that
 page?

Not intended, and logging in may not help either. Try it with and
without the trailing slash:

http://zope.org/Products/Zope3/

or

http://zope.org/Products/Zope3

At the moment, the latter works for me but the former doesn't.

During the time I was uploading the Windows installers for 3.1.0
(within the last hour), it's possible that login was _required_ before
the UI let me publish them. Sometimes Software Release pages get
into that state, refusing to let anonymous visitors view them so long
as any private items remain. That's not a possible factor anymore
(all items on the page are published now).

During the upload process, I had the same ongoing problems with
getting back login is required pages at seemingly random times
despite that I was logged in the whole time.

Chopping or adding a trailing slash often worms around that, and
whether or not you're logged in.

Hello everyone,

The Zope 3 development team is proud to announce Zope 3.1.0 final.

Zope 3 is the next major Zope release and has been written from scratch based
on the latest software design patterns and the experiences of Zope 2.

It is in our opinion that Zope 3.1 is more than ready for production use,
which is why we decided to drop the 'X' for experimental from the name. We
will also continue to work on making the transition between Zope 2 and Zope 3
as smooth as possible. As a first step, Zope 2.8 includes Zope 3 features in
the form of Five.

Now that we have a release that we would like to declare stable next week, we
are looking for translators, who translate Zope 3 into their favorite
language! We are utilizing the Rosetta system from Ubuntu for managing those
translations. If you are not familiar with Rosetta, please send us a mail to
zope3-dev@zope.org and we get you set up.

[Zope] Zope restart fails

2005-10-03 Thread John Poltorak

Following a server restart in the last couple of days I have been unable
to get Zope started.

Is there anything in particular I should check for?

Until the reboot Zope had been running for months without a problem,
although it may not have been stopped correctly before the reboot.
Should I need to delete any lockfiles that may have been left in existance
or should they get deleted on restart?

Have you tried restarting via the C:\Plone 2\Data\bin\runzope.bat file?
This will open a command prompt and show you startup messages, including
any errors that cannot be resolved.

Or, if you're on linux / unix, the equivalent is:

path_to_your_instance/bin/runzope

or, equivalently:

path_to_your_instance/bin/zopectl fg

Thanks Bill,

I saw that in a few google hits but ... I figured that if a fair
population wants to view the presentations then the files should be in
a universal format - like pdf or rtf.
Its an interesting question: how many people who just wish to peruse
the files will feel compelled to google and download new apps just to
be able to read them?

All best,

   Thanks Bill,
I saw that in a few google hits but ... I figured that if a fair
population wants to view the presentations then the files should be in
a universal format - like pdf or rtf.

Its an interesting question: how many people who just wish to peruse
the files will feel compelled to google and download new apps just to
   be able to read them?

Given that I don't run the Microsoft virus, Windows, on anything, have
OpenOffice.org on all our Linux and OS X systems, and that OpenOffice.org
software is freely available, I don't see that it's a problem.

[Zope] Accessing CURRENT property

2005-10-03 Thread Alex Renier
Hello,
if I have a folder1 in a folder2 and my folder 1 has a
certain property. If I want to know if folder2 has
the property I use hasattr() method on folder2, but it
returns true because it looks down the hierarchy and
sees the property in folder1. is there a way to check
for the property in folder2 ONLY without checking the
ancestor folders?.

Thanks!
