Before cutting the CMF 2.0 alpha GenericSetup should move out of the

anyone I need to wait on before doing so?

Everyone: I'll be working on this tonight. Please get all checkins
into GenericSetup done by 7:30 PM CST.

Work finished, please check out GenericSetup from here now:

svn+ssh://svn.zope.org/repos/main/GenericSetup/trunk

The original proposal also proposed to include it in the CMF via a
svn:external link, see

http://palladion.com/home/tseaver/obzervationz/2006/cmf_2_0_update_20060111

Was that part skipped on purpose or by mistake?

Cheers,

Yuppie

Ah, good catch. That sentence is in the paragraph below the actual
 blurb about the GenericSetup split-off.

Obviously this is a 5 second thing to do, but it also will require
constant maintenance to make sure the external is pointing to the right
 tag/branch/whatever.

What do people think, do we want a svn:external or do we want to just
mention it as a requirement in the docs (such as README, INSTALL,
 DEPENDENCIES)?

I don't think the burden of maintaining 'svn:external' is worse than the
burden of maintaining the correct version ID in DEPENDENCIES.txt. I
*want* to distribute GenericSetup with the CMF tarball, in fact, which
makes 'svn:external' seem the Right Thing (TM).

OK, I'll stitch that in tonight and change the docs back. I will point
it at the trunk for right now since thats all there is at this point.

I will look at making a 1.1 release for it to correspond with the CMF
2.0 beta.

Wouldn't it be better to make a 1.1 release to correspond with the
2.0 final? Or are you following the same betas that CMF will have for
2.0?

Certainly for the final; I think GS will be releasable in time to have
the CMF 2.0 beta's svn:external point to a tag, rather than the trunk +
revision ID.

From experience, it's the only thing that *does* get maintained, since
people's checkouts break. ;)

Hmm... I think you forgot to do the svn:externals for CMF 1.6 branch
too? (was GenericSetup removed from there as well?)
