Can you have site... directives without a corresponding
declareSite
and the net is littered with
war stories about how people have burnt their fingers using Zope for SQL
development. The mechanism of loading objects from the filesystem is
going to set anybody back.

and the learning curve must
be managable.
It was a long time ago and easy to forget, but this was what Zope(2)
provided at a time where there was nothing else even close.
