![]() First, thanks to those who responded to my call for comments last week about Oracle's woes. Some interesting opinions were expressed -- click on over to our DBA Water Cooler forum if you'd like to read them, or add your two cents. On a related note, our Featured Topic this time focuses on the seemingly endless war between the Big Three database vendors. As you all know, these companies are far from bashful in expressing their opinions about the competition. For every "pig with lipstick" comment from IBM (see below), Oracle's Larry Ellison has ten even more outrageous quips. Bill Gates is not exactly a blushing bride either. But what do the independent analysts say? Glad you asked! We have collected numerous objective (and not-so-objective) reviews from around the Web in our Best Web Links section. Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2 reviews and comparisons are available for your surfing pleasure. As always, your comments are welcome. Til next time, Tim |

Importing tables with LOBs Forum poster "Jibits" is still waiting for an answer in the DBA Water Cooler! He is trying to export and then import a table with a LOB column, but he's getting a "ora-959" -- tablespace does not exist -- error when he runs the import command. Can anybody help him solve this? |

Cross-tab queries in SQL Server? Member "Janos" has a MS Access database and he'd like to migrate to SQL Server 7. He has cross-tab queries in an old Access database but cannot translate them into SQL Server. Go to our "Data warehousing" forum if you have any recommendations. |
