;) The searchDatabase.com team is headed over to San Francisco this week for Oracle's massive Open World conference. Perhaps "massive" might not be the right term this year. It's a fait accompli that trade show attendance is way down for a litany of dismal reasons: the U.S recession, the continuing dot bomb era, September 11. Despite 400 technical sessions, 300+ vendor exhibitions, keynote histrionics by Larry Ellison and American TV news anchor Tom Brokaw, and even an appearance by the rock band Barenaked Ladies, anecdotal evidence is that OOW will be no exception to the downward spiral. I recently polled searchDatabase.com's Oracle experts and almost all weren't attending this year due to budget cuts. I'm curious about your projected 2002 spending. Is your department's travel spending going to be cut next year? What about general database systems spending? Are there any optimists out there that will increase spending, or is it the usual directive to "do more with less, less, less"? Pop on over to the DBA Water Cooler discussion forum and offer your proverbial two cents. Thanks for your time, Tim |

Reusing user tablespaces? Member "sudhir" is still waiting for an answer! He asks: "I am using MySQL 3.22, which uses the ISAM type for database. Now that I moved my Web site to another server with MySQL 3.23, which uses the MYISAM type. How can I convert *.ISD files to *.MYD files?" Go to our "Database-Web Connectivity" forum to help him out. |

This article introduces a few of these string functions and demonstrates a real-world solution that takes advantage of them. |
