;) Our focus on database fundamentals and the relational model a few weeks ago struck a chord with a lot of you. Now here's your chance to interact with one of the most knowledgeable and opinionated relational model evangelists: Fabian Pascal. He's been a searchDatabase.com columnist for a year now, and he never fails to educate, entertain, and annoy. (Those of you who have dared disagree with him know the pain of his cutting ripostes!) Fabian will be focusing on normalization this time and will dissect the common practice of denormalizing to increase database performance. He maintains that normalization is a logical concept and performance is a physical one -- and never the twain shall meet! Denormalization also imposes an often ignored, but very serious, integrity control burden. This should be a lively and thought-provoking presentation, so be sure to pre-register for the event, which will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at 1 pm EST (18:00 GMT). I'll be moderating, so I hope to "see" you there! Thanks for your time, Tim |

Who's the memory hog: Oracle or SQL Server? There's been a lively debate going on in our "DBA Water Cooler" forum: Member "HSM" found that his SQL Server was taking 10 times the memory that Oracle used! What do you think? Is SQL Server really at fault, or does it depend on the application design? |

ColdFusion and MVC Member "jayanthis" asks: "How do I implement a project in ColdFusion based on MVC architecture?" Can anybody offer any advice in our "Database-Web Connectivity" forum? |

| Tip of the Week: |
| Here is a short but sweet Oracle script that deletes duplicate records from a table based on the unique columns selected. |
