As I'm sure all you faithful searchDatabase members know, we hold a Tip Exchange Contest each month. Congratulations to Rohit Sinha, winner of January's tip prize, a Philips MP3-CD player! Rohit will be inducted into our Hall of Fame for his Oracle tip, Total record count per schema. Congrats also to our runner-up Craig Roberts for his tip Change the SQL prompt. If you haven't participated in our Tip Exchange, give it a try. You don't need to be a Ph.D. or a super-guru to submit a tip. The majority of our most highly rated tips are simple shortcuts that help get the job done faster and better. You've all learned little workarounds that help you; the Tip Exchange is where Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2 pros come together to share these hints. Sure, we receive submissions from database gods like Joe Celko, whose latest tip Converting an adjacency list model to a nested set model is "SQL for Smarties" indeed. Mere mortals can just think of something that helps you work more effectively and that could help others, too. You just might win our new February prize, a very cool Compaq Disk-on-Key. Submit your tips today! Till next time, Tim DiChiara, Editor |

| This is an extensive C program that extracts lines from the Oracle alert log for a specified date (or date range). The lines extracted depend on the entries in a 'pattern' file. Included is the syntax and an example of a pattern file and a sample command. |
