With databases growing exponentially, it's no wonder that storage management has become a major hot button issue in IT. Did you know that TechTarget launched a new magazine a few months ago specifically for storage professionals? It's called, prosaically enough, Storage. It's a very high quality publication; yet, like everything we do, it's free to those who qualify.
This month's cover story is partcularly appropriate for you DBAs out there: Get top performance from database storage. From the article: "As databases grew, administrators found that the only way to efficiently manage and expand database storage is to tap into the flexibility of SANs. However, with the expanded use of databases on storage networks, storage administrators now must deal with new performance, backup, restore and management issues-not to mention how to get along with the database administrators (DBAs). Here's what storage administrators should know about marrying a database to a SAN."
Other recent stories include:
- How to make your budget case
- What's the best network storage for databases?
- Prepare for petabytes now
I encourage you to check it out at storagemagazine.techtarget.com and let me know what you think.
Thanks, and have a great week, Tim

| Tip of the Week: |
| Indexes are created to enhance performance, but
often they are created with the same attributes, resulting in
redundant indexes. Over a period of time the number of such
indexes can grow, increasing the size of the DB2 catalog. This
extensive script for DB2 for OS/390 v7 can help you to indentify
all such indexes. |
