 From the Editor:

by Tim DiChiara, Senior Site Editor

Member "Morpheus" recently brought up a perennial controversy in one of our discussion forums: off-shore outsourcing. It's old news that U.S. IT jobs are rapidly migrating to China, India, Russia, and other countries with lower wages to offer. However, I'm very curious about what you enterprise data management pros in our audience think about the issue.

One member responded already: "I think as a general rule companies want to get the most for their money. If the laws are set up to allow you to get competent off shore-development (and the quality is the same), why would you not go off-shore? Companies are in the business of making money, not keeping people employed."

Agree? Disagree? Is this a problem in your company? If so, what's the solution? Developers have likely been already hit by this trend, but what about you DBAs out there? Is remote database administration the "next big thing" in off-shore outsourcing? Let's hear your feedback in our DBA Water Cooler forum.

If you need more background details on the issues, here is some of TechTarget's extensive coverage:

Till next time,
