 From the Editor:

by Sara Cushman, Assistant Editor

Do a search for "BI" on SearchDatabase.com, and the top link (the sponsored one!) is likely to be one devoted to bisexuality. Not exactly what I was looking for when I wanted to check up on our coverage of business intelligence, but it made me wonder if anyone looking for information on BI gets swept off the site before noticing that we do actually have many quality resources on the topic. After all, our erstwhile SearchDataWarehousing.com site has long since become a part of SearchDatabase.com, and with it, we took the resources that deal with the technical sides of business intelligence and data warehousing, both of which have been playing a part in the ever-present issues of data integration and cost reduction.

So for you BI-curious folks out there, here are a few recent offerings:

  • Data warehousing gets active
By eliminating data marts and building BI applications around centralized databases, companies are discovering which customers are most valuable to them and also reducing operational costs.
  • Continental Airlines builds real-time data warehouse
Airline officials credit the centralization of their databases and improved BI applications for recognizing and eliminating more than $7 million in fraud, and reducing cost by $41 million in the project's first year.
  • Eight steps to BI success
When it comes to selecting business intelligence tool sets, even the best option will almost always require a buyer to compromise.
  • MI, CI and BI
What's the difference between MI and CI, and how do they relate to business intelligence? Expert Mike Lampa answers.
  • Planning a business intelligence project
BI implementations are complex and thus detailed planning is essential. In this webcast, you will learn key components to consider when defining BI business requirements and more.

Want more coverage of BI? Let us know! We have a lot of BI-focused news analysis and technical articles in the works, but hearing from those who want the information can only help to get the ball rolling faster.

Until next time, Sara
