 From the Editor:

by Tim DiChiara, Senior Site Editor

Tired of the endless DBMS upgrade cycle? Well, too bad!

2004 is going to be year of the upgrade, like it or not. Most of the big industry players will release major new versions this year:

Does this excite you or depress you? Are you satisfied with DBMS that you're currently using or do you crave the latest and greatest features that the new products offer? Do you wish the vendors would focus their energies on the basics -- reliability, performance, security -- instead of continually responding to every new industry buzzword?

These questions boil down to this: Do you feel that DBMS products are improving or regressing? Let me know in 600 words or less. I'll publish the best rant in an upcoming column.

Cheers, Tim
