 From the Editor:

by Tim DiChiara, Senior Site Editor

The continuing war for DBMS supremacy is not confined to the major vendors in the market. The competition trickles down to individual DBAs, developers, and managers who use the products. Like politics or religion, bringing up the topic of which DBMS is best is sure to end up in a heated argument. There is little middle ground.

Sure enough, our Face-off: Oracle vs. SQL Server article is stirring up the proverbial hornet's nest. My colleague Robyn Lorusso from SearchOracle.com and I took opposing stances and briefly outlined why one product is superior to the other. We then invited your opinions on the matter -- so let's hear it! Go to the end of the article and use the "Sound Off" feature to let the world know your opinion. (We're looking for civil, informed points of view, so no personal attacks or ranting please!)

Need more information on the latest releases before diving into the fray? As all of you know, for both Oracle and SQL Server 2004 is going to be a major upgrade year and our crack news team has been all over the story. Here are a few samples from us and other publications about user impressions of the early betas:

If you have personally played with either 10g or Yukon, we'd love to hear your initial impressions -- email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Till next week, Tim
