 From the Editor:

by Sara Cushman, Assistant Editor

The perception that open source DBMSs are only for small projects is changing. MySQL, for example, has recently added enterprise-level functionality like clustering and automatic data replication across multiple nodes. Analysts are recognizing that there is life beyond the big three, and these systems can cost a whole lot less (although they are not free as is commonly believed!).

With that in mind, we at SearchDatabase.com want to help you learn more about the open source option. This week we've added a MySQL guru to our popular Ask the Expert panel.

Mike Hillyer was a featured speaker at the recent MySQL User Conference and was a technical reviewer for theMySQL Professional Certification Exam Prep guide and other MySQL books. He holds the MySQL Professional Certification and recently joined the MySQL AB documentation team. You may also recognize him as the founder of VBMySQL.com, a site for Windows users of MySQL.

If you are considering MySQL for future projects or have questions about current installations, ask Mike.

For other MySQL resources, a good place to start is our Featured Topic: MySQL on the rise.

Have a great week,
Sara
