 From the Editor:

by Tim DiChiara, Editor

We've finally resolved some technical difficulties with our new discussion forums -- they're back online now. Thanks for your patience! In case you missed it, here was the original announcement...

By popular demand, I'm happy to announce several new additions to SearchDatabase.com: two new discussion forums for our members using Sybase and MySQL systems.

Several years ago, Oracle's Larry Ellison declared Sybase "dead. May they rest in peace." Apparently, the thousands of Sybase users -- especially in the financial services industry -- never heard that news flash. Sybase is hanging tough and a very vocal segment of our membership has campaigned for more Sybase content. Done. We aim to please!

MySQL recently released a significant new version boasting many enterprise-level features, as well as partnering with heavyweights such as SAP. In the past, we've resisted covering MySQL because we considered it more of a "hobby-grade" DBMS, not worthy of supporting mission-critical demands. Times have changed and the use of MySQL is growing rapidly in large firms. Let's hear your thoughts about MySQL and Sybase in the new forums, as well as your technical administration and development questions!

Of course, our famous Ask the Expert section also contains some quality Sybase and MySQL advice and tips... not to mention thousands of answers to your SQL, DB2, and SQL Server questions as well. If you want a certified expert perspective, or if you're not in a hurry to get an answer, submit your question there.

Enjoy, and thanks for your continued support!

Cheers, Tim
