 From the Editor:

by Tim DiCihara, Editor

The SearchDatabase.com and SearchOracle.com teams will in lovely San Francisco in a few weeks for Oracle's massive OracleWorld 2004 conference. It promises to be even more massive than usual this year, since the show has merged with the old AppsWorld conference devoted to the E-Business suite. Perfect for those who thought that hanging out with 15,000 of your fellow database geeks just wasn't enough stimulation.

Indeed, there will be a lot to absorb: 400 technical sessions, 250 vendor exhibits, histrionics from all the top brass at Oracle and keynotes by a "who's who" of the IT executive ranks, including Carly Fiorina, Michael Dell, Scott McNealy, and Joe Tucci. The concert this year is by the band Tears for Fears, continuing the perplexing early-80s theme from last year when the Violent Femmes played. (At least it beats the mid-70s theme from 2002 when -- gasp! -- Journey and Cheap Trick were featured.) It will be information and sensory overload, as usual.

If you're going, email me and perhaps we can meet, or pull me aside if we cross paths at the show. (Although, as you can tell from my photo, I don't exactly stand out in this sort of crowd!) I'd love to chat about the state of the business, your plans for 2005, what you look for in a web site, how SearchOracle.com can improve, whatever's on your mind.

Till next week,
Tim
