Using rich metadata to create an intelligent storage environment
 VIEW WEBCAST
SPEAKER: William P. Hurley, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group
SPONSOR:   Fast Search & Transfer
SUMMARY: Despite the adoption of smarter hardware & software technologies, many of today's enterprise environments remain informationally unintelligent due to an inherent absence of a common rich metadata-based abstraction layer.

Database Administrators are faced with compliance obligations which are driving more comprehensive standards for all forms of storage, retention, and reuse. Key to achieving these standards is a common way to access information where it resides, without having to physically alter its state or location. The most effective way to intelligently understand diverse and distributed information stores is to use rich metadata to abstract information into a common "virtual" representation. This common layer provides uniform accessibility for front-end applications and provide's end-user with real-time access to any and all information from across the enterprise.

This webcast discusses the use and benefits of enterprise search technology and highlights the business case for using search to achieve compliance obligations while improving operational efficiency.

EXPERT WEBCAST
Fact-based database design
 VIEW WEBCAST
SPEAKER: Dr. Terry Halpin, Professor and Vice President, Northface University
SPONSOR:   SearchDatabase Whitepaper Library
SUMMARY: While traditional database design approaches such as ER and UML have value, their attribute-based nature and weak graphical support for business rules makes them less than ideal when capturing, validating, and evolving the data model. This presentation explains how Object-Role Modeling (ORM) may be used to model the data at a higher-level, thus facilitating communication with the domain expert, and enabling a wider range of business rules to be visualized and verbalized. Such fact-based models may then be used to generate models in the other notations or to generate the DDL code directly.

Join us in this webcast as one of the world's leading modeling experts describes how to effectively use ORM to design robust and flexible databases for your enterprise.
