[2] "IBM to unveil new Web services products"
IBM is expected to unveil products that will allow its customers to
build software links over the Internet. These new products are
software tools that give companies a way to connect their software
applications with other companies, usually suppliers or customers,
reducing the time and costs of developing such links. The capability
will be added to DB2 database, its Internet-infrastructure software,
WebSphere, Lotus Notes and Tivoli security-and-monitoring software.

[3] "HP enabling printers for Blackberry devices, exec says"
Hewlett-Packard may ship Blackberry-capable network printers this
fall with systems that can be operated by remote users via the
handheld data devices. HP would be the latest of several printer

WEB LINKS OF THE DAY
[1] "First look at Rnext beta"
What is all the excitement over Lotus Rnext about? "It's obvious that
Lotus has laced considerable emphasis on the performance of its
clients by moving memory and resource intensive tasks to the
background. In fact, this new release contradicts the rumor that
Lotus planned to abandon the Notes clients in favor of a Web-based
application, and there are many added features," according to this
product review.

THE MISSING LINK
-------------------------------------------------
"Of mouse and man"
Ever hear of Dr. Douglas Engelbart? Well, chances are if you're an IT
pro or if you just surf the Web for fun at home, the fruits of his
labor are in the palm of your hand. Engelbart is the inventor of the
computer mouse, and his colleagues and disciples hail him as a
point-and-click visionary. Engelbart is also responsible for the
first public demonstration of hypertext and online conferencing, more
than 30 years ago. Now 75, Engelbart "retired" in 1989 only to throw
his energies behind what he calls his "bootstrap institute," a vision
that pulls countries, concepts and other "social organisms" together.
The thinking is that a collective IQ would help us prepare, find
solutions and deal with the urgent problems in the world.
