LEAD STORY

E-Collaboration: A new buzzword or serious e-business? |
News: Group Computing

Consensus opinion is that XML will spark a wave of Web-based services
that promise to make technology more usable. XML's flexibility, one
of its main perks, also presents a problem. XML transfer includes a
large amount of information describing the data contained in it, and
file sizes can quickly mushroom.

LIVE EXPERT EVENT AUDIO CHAT | Domino and the UML

Who: Tony Higham, CTO, RareMedium
When: Nov. 20, 2001 12:00 pm EST (17:00 GMT)

Domino and The UML (Unified Modeling Language)
A blueprinting approach to software engineering

Are you tired of the Rapid Application Disastering (RAD) approach to
building software, and are looking for something that will help you
design and validate your software before you code, and recode and
recode it? Would you consider building a house without a blueprint?
Learn how the Unified Modeling Language (the UML) can help you build
blueprints that you can use to visualize and validate the design of
your Domino apps before you build them. Ultimately this will save
you time, and you'll build software that better meets the needs of
the users.

THE MISSING LINK | IM USAGE IN WORKPLACE IS RISING

There must be someone at your office who spends more time instant
messaging and changing out icons than actually working. Pretty much
everyone works with someone like that. IMs have become the personal
phone calls of the computer age, but they're not just time killers
anymore. They're working their way up the ladder and becoming an
essential part of the workplace. The proof is in the numbers. A new
report shows U.S. workers spent 4.9 billion minutes IMing in
September 2001. The year before, that figure was a paltry 2.3 billion
minutes. AOL is the champ, but MSN and Yahoo are on the rise.
