LEAD STORY
OVERRATED, UNDERRATED | News: InformationWeek
InformationWeek rates knowledge management (KM) the most overrated
business tool of 2001, saying it's plagued by being "less about tools
and more about culture." Employees have to be willing to share their
knowledge for any KM product to work. Lotus led the KM charge this
year with its Discovery Server document engine, K-station client and
QuickPlace shared workspace.

BLUETOOTH'S FUTURE LOOKING ROSIER | News: CNET
Attendees at last week's Bluetooth Developers Conference left with a
sense that the wireless networking standard is poised to hit critical
mass. Several new Bluetooth tools have recently hit the market, and
others are due out soon. A slowness in product releases and demand
for 802.11b wireless technology has generally held up Bluetooth's
adoption.

SUN ADDS WEB SERVICES TO J2EE | News: Network World
Sun has released a set of extentions for J2EE, its Java-based server
software platform, that let programmers build and run XML
applications on the Java platform.

MICROSOFT DEVELOPMENT LANGUAGE RATIFIED | News: Computerworld
A European standards body has ratified Microsoft's new .NET
development language, C#, and its runtime environment. Microsoft will
now send C# to the International Standards Organization for
international ratification. The language aims to make it easier for C
and C++ developers to code for the software giant's .NET platform.

THE MISSING LINK | The way of the penguin

It's a question that has been nagging IT: Why does a chilly, formally
dressed penguin serve as the symbol for the Linux operating system?
Think of the negative associations. All that waddling means they
don't run well -- not a flattering analogy for an OS. Forget all
that. Linus Torvalds, who created Linux, likes penguins. It's that
simple. He thinks of them as cute, cuddly and happily stuffed with
herring. He wants everyone to "let their love floe" and associate
Linux with that kind of cute contentment.
