LEAD STORY
LOTUS SAYS TRAVEL REALITIES WON'T LOOM OVER LOTUSPHERE | searchDomino
Despite the new realities of U.S. business travel, Lotus has high
hopes for attendance at Lotusphere 2002. However, this year's
attendance could be down more than 50% from last year not only
because of travel concerns, but also because the show is not as
technically oriented as it once was.

LOTUS NOTES AND SAMETIME SUPPLY A COMPETITIVE EDGE | Advisor
Biotechnology firm Genencor International has a distributed workforce
of 1,500. But the company claims its Notes-based portal combines
security, easy access to information, and real-time collaboration,
and makes employees more efficient.

MESSAGING RISKS | CRN
A security hole in America Online's instant messaging program
discovered earlier this month highlights the risks instant messaging
poses to corporate networks. One expert believes the threat is
exaggerated, especially to enterprise instant messaging systems such
as Lotus Sametime that are contained within the corporate firewall.

NASTY GIGGER WORM A SLOW MOVER | searchSecurity
JS.Gigger.A@mm, a JavaScript-based worm, arrives with a nasty payload
that tries to reformat your hard drive and delete local files. It
spreads via Outlook, mIRC chat clients and network connections.
Antivirus vendors, however, say they have the code under control and
it has not become widespread.

THE MISSING LINK | Hospital tells elderly men they're pregnant

Someone needs to give the computer at Chesterfield and North
Derbyshire Royal Hospital in London a crash course in biology. The
computer sent letters to a half-dozen older gents who were waiting to
hear about their impending operations. The mistaken missives informed
the men they were going to be mothers! They weren't preggers, just
peeved. Actually, in fairness to the computer, the person running it
had hit the wrong button. You can bet she'll be more careful next
time, otherwise a bunch of women may learn it's time to come in for
their prostate exams.
