However, the company has no current timetable to deliver the data model or development tool, and admits that development of component-based Lotus software is in its infancy. GERSTNER ENDING REIGN AS IBM CHIEF | The Washington Post Louis V. Gerstner, who is credited with rescuing IBM, announced yesterday that he would retire on his 60th birthday and turn over the chief executive's job to his longtime deputy, Samuel J. Palmisano. The transition had been widely assumed for months as Palmisano took on more responsibility for IBM's long-term strategy.
