IBM SPELLS OUT WEB SERVICES STRATEGY | VARBusiness
IBM is one of a growing number of companies that wants to be the glue
between Microsoft's .NET platform and Sun's Java technology. IBM said
yesterday its Web services strategy focuses on open standards and a
combination of products from IBM Global Services and its Lotus
Software and Tivoli divisions. The company also stated it will invest
$700 million in WebSphere this year.

VISUALWARE TARGETS E-MAIL AUTHENTICITY CONCERNS | InfoWorld
EmailTrackerPro, a new Windows application for network
administrators, analyzes e-mail header information as a way to trace
the route taken by mail messages after being sent. The program
attempts to recognize and cut through the misdirection and forged
headers that are often the hallmark of spammers.

PUTTING THE BRAIN ON AUTOPILOT | The Associated Press
SAS Institute will soon begin selling a software package that could
be adapted to compare word and grammar patterns in e-mail to a
writer's previous work and reveal inconsistencies. SAS, which already
makes fraud-detection systems for banks and phone companies, says its
Text Miner program will be sold to bolster business intelligence, not
uncover falsehoods.

SEARCHDOMINO ASK THE EXPERT RESPONSE | Advice: Jerry Harden

What is the best way to use graphical buttons with mouseovers that
execute @Functions or LotusScript in a Web-based Domino app? I've
seen a few articles about it but they all seem to fall short.

THE MISSING LINK | Hacker claims Web worm meant to combat sexism

Is this what the Spice Girls meant by "girl power"? A 17-year-old
Dutch girl, who claims to have bred the "Sharpei" worm to nip
Microsoft's .NET Web services platform, said she did it to show that
women can write viruses too. She told security firm Sophos that she
didn't want the worm to do any damage, but she did want it to spread
a message -- that cyberspace isn't just a man's world. I am woman,
hear me hack?
