LEAD STORY
LOTUS CONSIDERS CLIENT-SIDE SPAM CONTROL | CNET
To win the war against spam, Lotus Software may add client-side spam
filtering to its Notes client after the Lotus Notes and Domino 6
release later this year, according to a company official. Message
retraction, which would let the sender retrieve an e-mail message if
the recipient has not opened it, may be added as well.

IM PLATFORMS TO INTEGRATE SOON? | Advisor
Analysts say emerging standards will soon let instant messaging (IM)
users communicate across platforms. This integration is the goal of
IM industry groups that are working to create standards that will
help users communicate with a larger audience.

J2EE DELAY WON'T IMPACT WEBSPHERE RELEASES | e-Pro Magazine
Sun's J2EE 1.4 won't be ready until the first quarter of next year,
but the revised release date shouldn't hinder WebSphere developers
looking to work with Web services. According to an IBM official,
WebSphere already implements a full complement of Web services
standards, thus the delay doesn't have a major effect.

THE MISSING LINK | This just in: Porn is out

A researcher at Penn State University found that Internet search
engines aren't chug-a-lugging toward the virtual Red Light District
like they used to. Five years ago, nearly 17% of Excite searches were
naughty in nature. But by May 2001, that figure fell to 8.5%. Is
there more scorn for porn these days? Some experts say this study
shows that more average Joes are online, and average Joes are less
likely than average geeks to scope out sex on the Web. Still others
say there are so many search engines now, it's tough to draw any
conclusions. Filth is still hot, though. Searches for sex and
pornography sites outnumbered those for education, government and the
fine arts combined.
