Five years ago, nearly 17% of Excite searches were naughty in nature. But by May 2001, that figure fell to 8.5%. Is there more scorn for porn these days? Some experts say this study shows that more average Joes are online, and average Joes are less likely than average geeks to scope out sex on the Web. Still others say there are so many search engines now, it's tough to draw any conclusions. Filth is still hot, though. Searches for sex and pornography sites outnumbered those for education, government and the fine arts combined.
