According to IDC's recent study on Lotus and Microsoft, Microsoft Exchange has 9 million more users worldwide over Lotus Domino. But what does that really mean?
If you're trying to convince your company to stick with Lotus and not even think about Microsoft, we've got some good ammunition for you. Check out the archives of Lotus' Ed Brill's live Webcast from last week, or send the transcripts to your IT decisionmaker. And take our poll while you're at it.
Other news: Please welcome Kurt Ringleben, who joins the SearchDomino team as assistant editor. Kurt edits our tips, Best of Web links, featured topics, white papers and more. He also edits bloopers... which, if you don't already know, are amusing true stories about Domino/Notes professionals who can admit (and learn from) their mistakes. Please send us your true Domino/Notes bloopers if you haven't already.

Developer Forum: Can you help this person?
I have a catalog designed in Domino. There are users that are only able to order certain items in the catalog. These users are registered in a registration database and put into groups. There is a procurement application by another product written in XML that access the Domino catalog via a punchout. The same users who are registered in the registration DB are using the procurement application. When a user is in the procurement application and clicks a button to access the catalog, they don't want to have to authenticate. They want to be able to seamlessly access the catalog from the procurement application but still keep the security procedures as far as what products they are can or cannot order. Using XML or Javascript, is there a way to do that? |

Don't try this at home (though it worked for this person...) Usually when your resume has a typo, it ends up in the too-bad-so-sad pile of rejects. Nothing could be further from the truth for this Lotus developer who, thanks to a lucky error on his resume, landed his dream job.

| What's in a seat? |
According to new research from IDC, Microsoft's Exchange Server now has about nine million more users worldwide than Lotus Domino, 83 million to 74 million. Does it matter?
Previous poll results:
Do you anticipate having to learn Microsoft's .NET platform?
40%: Yes, because cross-platform integration is the future.
32%: Possibly, but I don't think I'll be forced to learn it.
24%: No, I don't think .NET will have much to do with Domino.
4%: No comment.
