BEA DRAWS A NEW LINE IN THE SAND | e-Pro Magazine
BEA is claiming that its WebLogic application server is seven times
more efficient than IBM's WebSphere. The claim is based on the number
of lines of code it takes to create an identical Web service with
each tool.

IBM, MICROSOFT TAKE DIFFERENT PATHS TO SAME PLACE | Network World
IBM and Microsoft are going head to head in a race to arm companies
with software that connects systems, applications and business
processes. Their approaches, however, differ. IBM takes a
cross-platform, heterogeneous approach; Microsoft relies on Windows
and its broad .Net umbrella for integration.

CONTEXTUAL COLLABORATION TO ADD VALUE TO SOFTWARE | Network World
Platform vendors like Lotus and Microsoft are busy developing
contextual collaboration systems making tools like instant messaging,
calendars, teamware, Web conferencing and discussion databases as
components with standard interfaces. Doing so allows companies to
add, say, a Web conference feature into a business application like
CRM.

THE MISSING LINK | Jeeves shows banner ads the door

Ask Jeeves, the servile search engine where the butler does it, does
not do banner ads. The site has gone "banner-free in 2003," claiming
that the banner ban will make life better for its users. Butlers do
hate clutter after all! Instead, you'll see what's called "Branded
Response and Premier Listings," where an unobtrusive selection of
commercial sites that are pertinent to your search neatly appear.
Jeeves doesn't do pop-ups either -- the butler did in those late last
year.
