If you've been holding your breath wondering if IBM Lotus is going to render your current messaging software obsolete, you can finally exhale. Domino isn't dying. That was the clear message at last week's Workplace 1.1 launch. In fact, here are the exact words of IBM's vice president for Lotus products, Larry Bowden: "The Domino application server will be around for the next decade." He said it -- and reporters, customers and business partners were all within earshot.

Does that mean you won't have to learn new skills? No. Does that mean that Domino isn't evolving? No. But for so many developers and admins who have sweated Domino's future, these are words you can hang your hats (and maybe your jobs) on. Check out the Lotus product roadmap and the new Workplace rollouts. What are your thoughts? Post your feelings in our Sound Off forum or drop us an e-mail, and let us know if you're sleeping any easier.

    Jon

    Site Exclusives
    >> IBM Lotus adds piece to Workplace pie
New team and collaboration components -- such as instant messaging, document management and threaded discussions -- are coming to Lotus' J2EE-based platform.

    >> IBM Lotus delivers workplace additions
It's releasing four new products for its next-generation platform and promising an aggressive rollout in the next year.

    >> IBM taps FaceTime to support WebSphere portal
FaceTime will integrate its IM management software into IBM's WebSphere Portal, a key element to its much touted Workplace strategy.

    >> Assigning initial passwords
It started with an innocent enough SearchDomino.com poll question: "How do you assign initial passwords to Notes IDs and Domino Web accounts?" When it was all said and done, however, resident security expert Chuck Connell ended up floored -- literally.

    Tip of the Week:
    Developer Tip: @Member in reverse
    by Joachim Rapp
While the @Member function finds a value's first position in a text list, this formula finds all positions of a string. It works for lists with up to 99 elements. Our experts love this tip, so check it out.
