Beware of geeks bearing 'presence' (CNET)
"Presence" technology will ultimately help enterprise users decide the best way to make contact with colleagues, but such technology is still immature, experts say. Both IBM and Microsoft are working to make presence part of their collaboration products. One analyst predicts that the market for presence technology will look similar to the Exchange and Lotus Domino rivalry that exists today in the messaging space.

At least a dozen employees of Southern California Edison hacked into the utility's customer database and changed a few phone numbers. They weren't just any numbers -- they were the numbers of people who were to be called for a customer satisfaction survey. So whom did the pollsters end up calling? The hackers' friends and family, which
explains why the electric company got nothing but glowing reviews.
