  •  From the Editor: Change is good

    by Joyce Chutchian, Site Editor

This will be my final weekly update letter to the SearchDomino.com community. I'll be building and moving to a new TechTarget Web site, which will be announced soon. Dana McCurley, our assistant site editor, will also be changing roles to become an associate editor on the SearchWin2000.com. It's not easy leaving a site that has such a dedicated community. I've worked on this site since its inception in 1999, and have built many relationships along the way.

I'd like to welcome SearchDomino.com's new editor, Christine Polewarczyk who was formerly editor on SearchWin2000.com. Christine will be the lucky one to work with all of you and to bring new ideas to SearchDomino.com. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Change is a good thing.

With all the hype of the new skills necessary for the latest products and upgrades, we felt it only appropriate to offer our Developer University: Domino, Java and J2EE this week. It's chock full of resources on all three elements, from tips to webcasts to articles.

Be sure to also check out Mark Brunelli's article When DNS blacklists go bad.

SearchDomino.com will still be dedicated as your best news, tips and information resource for Domino, Notes and more. Look for great things to come in the future from the new editorial staff.

    Joyce

    Tip of the Week:
    >>Featured Expert Administrator Tip: Migrating from a distributed directory to a central directory
    By Karen Fishwick
Karen Fishwick gives an overview of the new central directory architecture in ND6 and how to migrate from a distributed directory. This tip is excerpted from her recent book, Exam Cram 2: Lotus Notes and Domino 6 System Administrator, and is the third tip in her series.

Read her second tip, Easy steps for monitoring application size, and her first tip, Setting mail quotas.

    >>Featured Expert Developer Tip: Andre Guirard on Java vs. LotusScript
    By Andre Guirard
Recently a developer asked the question, "What are the advantages and disadvantages of writing a Java agent over a LotusScript agent?" in the SearchDomino.com developer discussion forum. We asked SearchDomino.com expert and IBM Lotus developer Andre Guirard for his opinion on this matter. His response: "They're each better than the other one."

See what SearchDomino.com application development expert Brian Mahoney had to say about Java vs. LotusScript. Respond to the original developer discussion forum post yourself. Which is better: Java or LotusScript?
