TIPS: Think integration, not migration
Despite the fear many Domino developers have that they must either stick with Domino, risking obsolescence, or dump Domino and move to WebSphere -- the decision is not nearly so stark. There are a number of ways to tie the two together, using each product for areas where it does best -- Domino for messaging tools and security features, and WebSphere for creating Java applications and enterprise portals.

This technology is made available from a business's Web server for Web users or other Web-connected programs. The technology ranges from such major services as storage management and customer relationship management (CRM) down to much more limited services such as the furnishing of a stock quote and the checking of bids for an auction item. Users can access this through a peer-to-peer arrangement rather than by going to a central server. Some services can communicate with other services and this exchange of procedures and data is generally enabled by a class of software known as middleware.

Robot joins origami fold

A student at Carnegie Mellon University has developed a robot that can -- are you sitting down? -- do origami. It can already make hats and little planes and is trying to master the more complicated reverse folding and prayer folding skills. America may still have that tech edge, but origami professionals probably feel a little uneasy. What's next, a robot that bakes its own Shrinky Dinks?
