Study: WebSphere productivity trails Microsoft
[eWEEK]
Results of a study by The Middleware Co. and sponsored by Microsoft show the .NET development environment is more productive than comparable Java environments, including WebSphere. According to one example from the research, it took developers 94 man-hours to build an application in Visual Studio, while WebSphere developers needed 195 man-hours to build the same application.

Who needs Microsoft? Not IETF
[CNET News.com]
The Internet Engineering Task Force has dumped a proposal by Microsoft to add its proprietary technology to a proposed standard called Sender ID that would identify the source of e-mail messages. However, some question whether the decision will divide the IETF and hurt the proposal's chance for long-term success.

Microsoft extends Visual Studio line
[InternetNews.com]
Microsoft is extending its line of .NET development tools toward occasional developers with the release of Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition, a suite designed for line-of-business application developers in small to medium-sized businesses who occasionally build Windows, Web or mobile applications.

ADVICE:  Ask Brian Mahoney: Switching between IDs using VB 6.0
Dear Brian: I have created a program to send e-mails using Lotus Notes 5.0.10. I am sending the mail from a specific mail ID. The class that I am using works fine if only one e-mail ID is configured on the system. But in the case of two or more e-mail IDs, there is a need to switch for that specific ID if the last login used a different ID. How it is possible to switch between IDs using VB 6.0?

The Missing Link

Listen for the sonic bloom
[Associated Press]
Hippies couldn't imagine this kind of flower power. A company in Japan has created a gadget that turns household plants into speakers. The gadget (or is it a gizmo?) sends the sounds shooting up the stems and out through the petals and leaves. Just imagine being able to listen to "Venus" via Venus Flytrap. Or Guns N' Roses through red roses. How about "Tiptoe through the Tulips" through the tulips? You get the idea. The same company is also trying to turn plants into phone speakers. So you could talk to your Aunt Fern through the fern.
