This month's highlights include a SOA development environment for Domino pros, a tool for linking Notes to a CRM system and an enhanced Domino spam-filtering system.

Trilog offers SOA environment for Domino developers

Rapid application development toolmaker Trilog Group Inc. is offering a new development environment to help Domino programmers transition to J2EE. The Woburn, Mass.-based company's FlowBuilder 3.5 is a J2EE environment that uses a service oriented architecture (SOA) to simulate the Domino development experience.

According to Trilog, FlowBuilder is intended to help Domino shops avoid long, costly retraining initiatives by enabling Domino pros to leverage their existing developer resources as they implement a J2EE or portal strategy. The environment includes the ability to build Web services components using XML, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Web Services Description Language (WSDL) and Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI), plus an Eclipse plug-in that offers Eclipse integration.

Interface Software upgrades InterAction for Lotus Notes

Interface Software Inc., an Oak Brook, Ill. company, has released an upgrade to its InterAction for Lotus Notes synchronization component. This new version will allow organizations to tie individual users' Lotus Notes address books to InterAction's centralized CRM repository, using an automated, server-based synchronization process.

According to the company, InterAction for Lotus Notes provides heightened privacy safeguards, permits users to lock down individual fields, and gives complete control as to whether and when data changes are made. In addition, users can set system defaults to accept updates to data automatically, or choose to be notified of potential changes and decide on a one-off basis, as well as whether or not to accept them.

Gallatin Technologies releases kNEWS Professional v3.1

Gallatin Technologies Inc., based in San Diego, Calif., has released kNEWS Professional, an electronic publishing application that allows organizations using Notes and Domino to create and deliver e-newsletters, bulletins, broadcast e-mail alerts and RSS feeds to subscribers. kNEWS can be used to build custom e-mail list groups from external data sources, or compile opt-in, permission-based groups from a Web interface.

In addition, Gallatin offers source code as an option, so an organization can customize the product to its unique requirements. This application is priced at $2,500. A free evaluation version of the full kNEWS product is available at the company's Web site.

Sybari Software partners with Authentium

In an effort to strengthen the protection offered by its Antigen product line, New York-based Sybari Software Inc., has announced a partnership with West Palm Beach, Fla. company Authentium Inc.

Sybari will add a seventh scan engine to Antigen, its antivirus, antispam and content-filtering program for Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, SMTP Gateway and Microsoft Live Communication Server. Sybari claims the addition of the Command engine further strengthens its ability to provide a proactive and powerful defense against viruses, worms and malicious code.

Online learning firm KnowledgeNet acquired by Thomson

Stamford, Conn.-based publishing firm Thomson Corp. announced late last month that it will acquire KnowledgeNet Inc., a Scottsdale, Ariz. provider of Lotus Notes and Domino learning tools as well as other Web-based learning offerings. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year. Terms were not disclosed.

Thomson intends to merge KnowledgeNet with its own enterprise learning business, Thomson NETg, which offers online learning for Lotus-specific technologies, including Domino and Domino Designer administration and development skills training, including Release 5 and R6. It also offers reference materials, mentoring, certification programs and more traditional tools such as textbooks, job aids and instructor-led materials.

Teamstudio releases tools suite for Notes admins

Teamstudio Inc., a Beverly, Mass.-based company, announced the release of Teamstudio for Notes Administrators, the company's newest modular suite of server tools for IBM Lotus Notes and Domino administrators. The new suite, which can be used independently or collectively, supports administrators by monitoring various aspects of Notes and Domino database applications and performing scheduled scans of important databases or directories.

The Teamstudio for Notes Administrators suite offers three editions: Analyzer Server Edition, Configurator Server Edition and Validator Server Edition, and retails for between $2,000 and $3,000.

Wingra offers help with Domino-to-Exchange transition

Madison, Wis.-based messaging integration and migration specialist Wingra Technologies LLC is offering a new tool to help Domino shops convert to Microsoft Exchange.

Version 2.2 of the company's Notes Migrator for Exchange facilitates multiple migrations of users' mail, address books, calendars, tasks and distribution lists without end-user intervention. New features include archived data conversion without archive divisions, automatic conversion of objects to Exchange mailboxes and setting mail-forwarding rules when users are migrated, as well as a new online library of error resolution tools.
