For every tip contest we have, SearchDomino.com receives lots of developer tips. The Domino developers out there are active and engaged. They're eager to share their knowledge and experience.

But Domino administrators -- now that's a whole different story. I know you're out there, because you're signed up for the weekly Administrator Tip newsletter and you're reading what we send you. Why not send in your own tips, timesavers or shortcuts?

Frankly, I'm baffled. Lots and lots of developer tips -- but no administrator tips! Isn't the opportunity to win a free 4 GB iPod Mini a good incentive to share your knowledge?

There are so many administrators new to the Notes/Domino environment who could benefit from your expertise. So get motivated and submit your administrator tips here.

    ~Christine

    >> 'B-tree structure invalid' error when replicating to Mac OS
Dear Mike: When replicating a large (c. 2 GB) database to the local hard disk on my Macintosh with OS 10.2.8 and Notes 6.5.1, I get an error message "B-tree structure invalid" and cannot open the local replica. By contrast, I can open any server replica of the same database with no problem. I have read that the problem stems from a too-small buffer pool, but I don't know how to increase the size of the pool.

    >> Migrating Domino 6.01 from NT domain to Win2003 domain
Dear Mike: We are currently running Domino 6.01 on Windows 2000 servers in an NT domain. We will be migrating to a Windows 2003 domain; the Domino servers will remain on Windows 2000 servers. Where can I find information about what I need to be aware of? (I am the LAN admin, not the Domino admin.) The Domino admin tells me there is nothing to worry about.

    >> Sync time servers on Domino
Dear Mike: Is it safe to point Domino to OS time and then synchronize OS time via external NTP time source? I've heard that allowing time to be reset while Domino is running is not good.

    Tip of the Week:
Getting started with the WebSphere Portal Toolkit
In last month's Domino & WebSphere Strategies tip, you learned about the various features and functions of WebSphere Portal. This month, the focus turns to the challenging task of setting up the WebSphere Studio and Portal Toolkit for creating, testing and interactively debugging portlets for WebSphere Portal.

Formatting Excel data in rich text tables
The code in this tip picks up data from a selected Excel spreadsheet and writes it into a Notes document. In the Notes document, it will generate a table dynamically and put the data into the table.
