IBM refreshes Notes, Domino, Workplace

Chief among the new products launched at the show were the long-expected Notes and Domino 7, which is due to ship this summer. The launch coincided with the 20th anniversary of Lotus' flagship product.

Workplace gets an update

A hosted application to help companies deal with compliance regulations comes from Lotus wearing the Workplace badge. Sometimes it may seem that anything that moves can bear the Workplace moniker. Oh well, it worked in WebSphere's early days.

Dear Mike: We recently upgraded our servers to 5.0.12. We have now received calls from users that some of their inbox mail is showing up unread after they have opened it. Any idea what may be causing this? We compact our servers once a week. I thought it might be that. We have asked the users to delete cache.dsk and desktop5.dsk. This only works temporarily.

Last year Americans disposed of nearly 20 million tons of electronic products, and environmentalists are saying the load is overwhelming the bandwidth of the nation's landfills. Retailers like Staples and Office Depot have stepped up to offer recycling programs, but with the new Mac mini hitting the shelves this week, things may only get worse.
