LEAD STORY

"Ellison takes the wraps off Oracle9i"
Oracle's vaunted 9i database is out the door. The company claims 9i's
new version of old clustering technology will change the price
dynamics of the database market. Oracle chief Larry Ellison thinks
this "last database" will be the death of MS' and IBM's database
businesses. All cheerleading aside, 9i is available now on Solaris.

A look at an off-the-wall story from the Web...

"Got caught going full monty? Doh!"
If you visit the Oxford English Dictionary's online edition
(http://www.oed.com/), be sure to check out the "d's" and note the
homage to Homer. Not the Greek dude who wrote those epic poems you
had to read in high school, but the animated geek with epic problems.
The OED has admitted Homer Simpson's trademark "doh!" into its latest
official lexicon. The word police define it as "expressing
frustration at the realization that things have turned out badly or
not as planned or that one has just said or done something foolish.
Also implying that another person has said or done something
foolish." Of course, they could also define it as a method of
imitating Homer Simpson. You can only see "doh!" in the online
version - the print edition is a few years off. Some other new words
and expressions: "bad hair day," "full monty," and "cheesy."
