LEAD STORY

"Oracle and Sun fire at Microsoft with J2EE-migration toolkit"
We now know more about the bait Sun and Oracle are using to lure
Windows developers to J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition). The Oracle
Migration Kit for ASP (Active Server Pages) will offer an incremental
migration plan for moving operating system environments, databases,
and applications from Windows to J2EE running on Sun servers and
Oracle's 9i Application Server. It will be ready for free download in
two months.

A look at an off-the-wall story from the Web...

"The push to push women higher"
Here is a test. Who is Bill Gates? Now, who is Carly Fiorina? If you
could answer the first but not the second question, you are not
alone. Despite being named the Most Powerful Woman in Business by
Fortune magazine, only 12% of IT professionals recognize
Hewlett-Packard's female CEO, compared with 98% who recognize Gates.
A new survey by Roper Starch released by Deloitte & Touche, found few
women are leading tech companies. Only one of 10 surveyed said the
owner or CEO of their company was a woman. That is only 10%, compared
to 17% in other industries. It makes those stodgy, old economy firms
look positively enlightened.
