LEAD STORY
"Microsoft denies talk of Windows XP delay"

A denial from Microsoft that it has delayed the latest version of its
Windows operating system, rebuffing comments from an analyst that
sent shares in the software giant down about 3 percent. Publicly,
Microsoft has said only that the software, called Windows XP, will be
released in the second half of the year, and a company spokesman said
that has not changed.

[1] "WinXP delayed? How it could slip beyond October"
Windows XP may or may not have been delayed until October; it depends
how you look at it. According to an internal schedule obtained by
Robert Stein of Activewin, XP is currently intended to be in the
shops in October. Apparently pouncing on the same schedule, Rob
Enderle of Giga Information Group interpreted this as two months
slippage from the August date he'd earlier been given to understand.

[2] "Quick Takes: Leave it to the NetPros"
When it comes to the care and feeding of Active Directory, leave it
to the NetPros. The company has an insightful tool for tackling some
of the more tedious AD issues. Read all about it and a discount
that's certainly not to be discounted in this week's Quick Takes.

[3] "Microsoft to formally launch Office XP on May 31"
Bill Gates will formally unveil Office XP to the marketplace at an
event in New York May 31. Office XP is the first version of the
Microsoft application suite to incorporate voice-recognition
technology. Users will be able to open and close files, save
documents and perform other common tasks via voice command,
executives have promised.

[4] "Microsoft to grow .NET with developer program"
Microsoft has launched a program designed to help independent
software vendors and developers build hosted applications. The most
recent addition to Microsoft's .NET strategy, the Hosted Applications
Development Community, is intended to be a roadmap of sorts, whereby
a company looking to enter the ASP market can leverage advice from
Microsoft to get their hosted applications to market quickly.

[2] "Service pack management"
Windows 2000 Magazine explains the standard, two-step approach for
applying service packs or hot fixes, but says the real way to go is
to use a timesaving service pack management program. Installing a
service pack or hot fix on 100 computers suddenly becomes as simple
as installing on one. Note: A review of several service pack
management programs called "Ahead of the Service Pack" is available
in Windows 2000 Magazine's November 2000 issue, but can only be
accessed by registered users.

THE MISSING LINK
-------------------------------------------------------
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Global sites left out of Webby nods"
The Webby Awards are the Internet's answer to the Oscars. This year's
nominations give a nod to music, spiritualism and the downright odd.
But they are neither particularly worldly nor especially wide. The
350-member International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences has put
an overwhelming focus on English-language, U.S.-centered sites.
Still, the gala July awards ceremony is expected to draw more than
3,000 technology industry figures wearing some of the same outrageous
fashions as their film industry counterparts. The best news is award
winners must work within a five-words-or-less acceptance speech
limit.
