"MS: Security hole in SQL lets attackers take over"

A flaw has been outed and a patch issued for SQL Server 7.0 and SQL
Server 2000 Gold. The vulnerability can let an attacker take over a
targeted server, although MS says it's only a problem in servers
configured for Mixed Mode authentication.

[1] "Second Exchange patch runs into trouble "
Will it take three patches before there's a charm? CNET reports that
Microsoft's latest software fix for a flaw in Exchange 2000 and 5.5
may still be causing problems. Three sysadmins have said the fix is
still hanging their servers. Microsoft said it hasn't heard of any
problems with its second patch.

[3] "Unisys closes in on Unix/RISC performance mark"
Unisys finished second on SAP's proprietary benchmark for
scalability, closing in on "big iron" Unix/RISC systems and "big
iron" Wintel systems. The result on the 32-processor ES7000 server
running Windows 2000 Datacenter Server and SQL Server 2000 Enterprise
Edition pushes Unisys up from fourth place on SAP's Sales &
Distribution benchmark.

[4] "W2k clustering market gets a competitor"
Legato Systems says it has ported Co-StandbyServer to Windows 2000.
The product of this porting, Co-StandbyServer 2000, is ready now and
will go to war with Microsoft Cluster Services, although Legato says
the product doesn't compete head-on from a market share standpoint.

In order to ensure availability and reliability, Microsoft has set

presence. The piece also discusses the Web site as a critical part of

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"BlackBerrys and baseball"

"Here comes the stretch -- and the pi... -- oh wait, he stopped to
check his e-mail." Get ready. That could be in the baseball broadcast
of the future, where the batter steps out of the batter's box so the
pitcher can check his inbox. The Toronto Blue Jays organization has
given each of its players, coaches and trainers a BlackBerry wireless
e-mail gizmo to keep in touch with everyone at home during the 81
road games this year. A team spokesman said the BlackBerrys should
improve morale in the nest -- bluejays in the wild love blackberries
-- but players said they're just waiting for the day the dugout
ditches hand signals and sends e-mails to the mound and the base
coaches.
